Environmental thresholds for mass-extinction events

چکیده
While the global-average temperatures are rapidly rising, more researchers have been shifting their focus towards past mass-extinction events in order to show relations between temperature increase and thresholds which might trigger extinction of species. These relation graphs found practical by conservationists policy makers determine threshold values set climate targets. Unfortunately, this approach be dangerous, because (MEEs) related many environmental parameters is only one them. Herein we provide a comprehensive evaluation required sustain habitable planet. Besides, suggest actions within sustainable-development goals (SDGs) observe those critical parameters, assure having an inhabitable planet for current living

Extinction Thresholds for Species in Fractal Landscapes
Predicting species’ responses to habitat loss and fragmentation is one of the greatest challenges facing conservation biologists, particularly if extinction is a threshold phenomenon. Extinction thresholds are abrupt declines in the patch occupancy of a metapopulation across a narrow range of habitat loss. Metapopulation-type models have been used to predict extinction thresholds for endangered...
متن کاملMass extinction events and the plant fossil record.
Five mass extinction events have punctuated the geological record of marine invertebrate life. They are characterized by faunal extinction rates and magnitudes that far exceed those observed elsewhere in the geological record. Despite compelling evidence that these extinction events were probably driven by dramatic global environmental change, they were originally thought to have little macroec...

متن کاملMetapopulation extinction thresholds in rain forest remnants.
Although habitat fragmentation is a major threat to global biodiversity, the demographic mechanisms underlying species loss from tropical forest remnants remain largely unexplored. In particular, no studies at the landscape scale have quantified fragmentation's impacts on colonization, extinction, and local population growth simultaneously. In central Amazonia, we conducted a multiyear demograp...
متن کاملThe time-dependent reconstructed evolutionary process with a key-role for mass-extinction events.
The homogeneous reconstructed evolutionary process is a birth-death process without observed extinct lineages. Each species evolves independently with the same diversification rate-speciation rate, λ(t), and extinction rate, μ(t)-that may change over time. The process is commonly applied to model species diversification where the data are reconstructed phylogenies, e.g. trees estimated from pre...
